Trademarks for Companies

Every company that is known has something that differentiates from the competition, and that could be a logo, tag line and even the fonts used for the name of the company. The first step a company should do before starting is to protect its logo or sign that will resemble what the company offers for services. The best way to protect it is through trademark. A trademark will absolutely help the company of any legal issues in the future. Some other companies,  or entities might try to use the logo or taglines to create business under your company’s name, and that  could lead to a fraud and your company could get a bad reputation.

According to an interview with John Welch, on iTunes from IP Counsel podcast, John gives an explanation on how trademarks registrations are important and also valuable assets to the patent owner.  Sometimes, companies will try to use a logo or tagline from another company, to represent a different type of product that could lead into misrepresentation on the owner of the trademark. The use of a logo or tagline is and should be represent only one product or service that belongs to the trademark owner. It is crucial for companies to registered their logos or taglines or whatever it is that is going to represent them, so they can be protected from other companies trying to use the same logos or taglines. Sometimes companies might also register the color or colors that are used in fonts or logos if desired by the owner. The trademark has a nation wide protection and it is very important for the business to maintain the trademark.
