Creating a Music Video

We all know that music videos can be an amazing tool for an artist(s) or bands to promote their music, but have you ask yourself what does it take to make a music video? If your answer is no here are some tips that you can find useful when making a music video.

1. Before shooting video: Make sure that the band or artist gets a copy of the song where they can listen while shooting the video. The song can be a scratch song just so they can sing along. Not having the recorded song playing while shooting video can compromise your project in post-production. You will get sync problems with the audio track and video track if not done right.

2. While shooting the video: it is very important that you take a lot of footage while shooting. If you are using one camera it is a good idea to have the band or artist play or sing the song several times so you can capture video of all different angles. The more footage you can get, the better results your video is going to have. Remember to have the artist or band singing to the song instead of lip singing. This will make the artist look real instead of fake. Facial expressions change when you someone is actually singing than just lip singing. Remember to have enough B-roll for cutaways in your music video that will make the video more interesting.

3. Editing process: Once you have all your video, is time for you to review it and decide what are the best shots to use in the video. Once the audio track is in the timeline of your editing software it is time to have the video match with the song. This when syncing takes place. Now with all the footage and different angles is time to put them in the sequence and your B-roll could be use anywhere your creativity tells you where is a good place.
