MPAA is here for you

For those interested in the film industry or for those who are starting a career in the film industry, here is some information about Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) you might want know. MPAA was founded with the intentions to foster a more favorable public image for the motion picture industry and to safeguard the role of then-silent films’ place in mainstream America. MPAA also instituted initiatives to forestall government interference in filmmaking, these initiatives were made by former postmaster General William Hayes.

I remember when watching movies seeing their logo but I never knew what they were or what they really did until now. They are very strong in protecting the rights of people who create TV shows, movies, artwork, etc. Even though the MPAA was created to help the American movies, they also work with governments from other countries around the world to protect the work of people who made or created a great work.

MPAA can give you an understanding of movies or TV shows ratings, like what G, PG, R, etc. means. Since ratings in movies are very important, MPAA provides a guideline for parents on how to select the best movie when watching it with kids. In the guidelines it even encourages parents to guide the kids through a conversation after the credits roll. A good conversation could be about what values were represented in the movie and also discussing what they just saw. Sometimes a movie can have a lot of information for kids that could lead to misunderstanding of a subject, that is why MPAA recommends parents to talk to their children about the movie, that way if there is a misunderstanding, parents can clear that up for the kids.

MPAA it’s been for many years and they still keep their mission and that is to safeguard the intellectual property rights and opening markets to uniquely powerful global media of film.
